UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in the Death of a Woman Found Dead on a Springdale Road

UPDATE: A Springdale man has confessed to killing the woman whose body was found in a Springdale road with a gunshot wound.

Kevin Velez, 26, of Springdale was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, according to a Springdale Police Department news release.

Velez admitted to killing 29-year-old Springdale resident Sanjuana Perez-Ostiguin after he was arrested on an unrelated warrant, according to the news release.

“Velez was transported to the Springdale Police Department where he was questioned about the death of Perez-Ostiguin. During the interview Velez confessed to shooting and killing Perez-Ostiguin,” the news release states.

Detectives located Velez as he was sitting in a white Ford Explorer at 1010 N. Thompson Street, according to the news release.

Velez is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.

The woman who was found dead with a gunshot wound in a Springdale road has been identified.

Medical examiners with the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory identified the woman as Sanjuana Perez-Ostiguin, 29, of Springdale.

“The case is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” a Springdale Police Department news release states.

Springdale police were called to Don Tyson Parkway and George Anderson Sunday at 4:51 a.m. regarding a body lying in the road, according to a Springdale Police Department news release.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a deceased Hispanic woman between the approximate ages of 25-35 years old, according to the news release.

“Upon further examination of the body it appeared that there was a gunshot wound to the torso of the female,” the news release states.

According to court documents, Springdale police arrested Perez in 2017, for felony possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule 1 or 2 drugs with intent to deliver.  She was held at the Washington County Detention Center on no bond and a department hold.
