VAN BUREN, Ark. (KNWA) — Old Timers Day in Van Buren is going punk… steampunk.
The event that has been a favorite across generations in Van Buren is taking on a steampunk theme this year, and will officially be called Old Timers Day Steampunk Festival, according to a news release.
“Steampunk is the most famous new trend where the future meets the past,” said Mark Shaffer, president of the Old Town Merchants Association and owner of Metro Gallery. “Steampunk is modern technology powered by steam power, cogs and wheels and set in the 1800’s with a backdrop of Victorian England or America’s Wild West.”
The festival will be held in Downtown Van Buren on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It will have several steampunk attractions, which include the following: stilt walkers, jugglers and hula hoop artists; rotating performers including Irish dancers, fire dancers and Native American dancers; a magic act; costume contest; tethered hot air balloon rides; and much more.
