To recognize Earth Day, the City of Van Buren and Keep Van Buren Beautiful wants to raise awareness about litter laws, specifically ones about cigarette litter.

The Van Buren Police Department will be increasing daytime patrol to crack down on people tossing out cigarette butts.

Mayor Joseph Hurst released the following statement:

“We are taking this opportunity to stress the importance of keeping Van Buren a clean, attractive city. We also want to highlight the city’s vital partnership With Keep Van Buren Beautiful and its ongoing programs ensuring our streets are clean and free of litter. Earth Day is the perfect time to raise awareness and encourage everyone to please do not litter.”

John Pope, the director of Keep Van Buren Beautiful, said that the organization will be providing free car and pocket ashtrays. You can find these at Shoppers Value Foods.
