VeoRide in Fayetteville Set to Roll Out New Updates

News

Those razorback and teal bikes you see dropped off around Fayetteville are VeoBikes, and they’re accessible to anyone with the VeoRide app.

Since it was implemented in September, the program has gained popularity and put Fayetteville on the map for the largest bike-share program in Arkansas. It has been used so widely that new features and better bikes are pedaling their way into the area.

VeoRide bikes can be found all over the city of Fayetteville.

“It frees up more parking, it’s less wear and tear on the roads, and a biking customer for a business is a lot easier to accommodate than a driving customer, said University of Arkansas Bicycle and Pedestrian Programs Coordinator, Dane Eifling.

To start your VeoRide takes less than five minutes. All you have to do is download the app, find the nearest bike, scan it, and you’re on your way.

Now that ride may be even faster with their new updates; including an updated app that will add rewards for users, a smaller service map so bikes are easier to access, more “hubs” or docks for bikes to be dropped off at, and all new E-bikes.

“We’re just getting started. The new e-bikes, adding more bikes and the hubs are helpful just to kind of bring a little bit of order to the system so people can just know that a bike is going to be there for them,” said Eifling.

Since partnering with VeoRide, the city of Fayetteville said the bike program has provided a strong  economic impact and made it easier for both students and visitors to get outside and explore.

“A lot of people come to Fayetteville and are curious and interested to checkout our trails so it certainly provides a low barrier way to bike and go for a ride,” said Fayetteville Sustainability and Resilience Director, Peter Nierengarten.

The city of Fayetteville also said it hopes the new updates continue to add a low cost option for transportation and expect the program to continue growing into 2019.

VeoRide is offering an incentive for riders on election day- anyone who uses a VeoRide to hit the polls Tuesday and posts a picture will receive five free 15-minute rides.
