BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KFTA) — To honor veterans, Walmart has announced it will give hiring preference to military spouses.
The military spouse career connection will be paired with Walmart’s ‘Welcome Home’ commitment.
Military spouses face a 26 percent unemployment rate compared to the national rate of four percent.
Walmart Director of Military Programs Gary Profit, a veteran himself, said that rate is unacceptable.
“By virtue of our size and scale, I think we can do a lot to help, um, drive that military spouse unemployment down, and I think our goal should be full employment,” Profit said.
Walmart has hired more than 5,500 veterans in Arkansas alone, and more than 200,000 across the U.S.
The company has publicly stated its goal to hire 250,000 vets by 2020.
