Walton Arts Center Renovations Closer to Complete

It’s been two years since the Walton Arts Center began its $23,000,000 renovation.

A WAC representative says the renovation is about 75% complete and they are more excited than ever to be a part of the downtown district.

“We had to stay open so we could continue to do business. We had to put on shows,” said Erin Rogers, Walton Arts Center spokesperson.

“Our patrons have been  coming in and out of the doors with the covered walkways which is one place where they can probably see a difference but once you get inside the doors, you cannot tell. That will change,” she said.

It has remained open but now that its show season is coming to a close, they’re putting on the finishing touches to a multi-million dollar project.

“I think the first thing that you can see is that you have the glass windows. Before you really had a brick wall on the inside. Now you’ll have a full exposure to Dickson street,” Rogers said.

There’s about 30,000 square feet of newly renovated space…that will help the WAC better serve its more than 250,000 patrons.

“Whether it be theatre, whether it be a dance show, whether it be just some kind of reception. It just makes the whole experience better,” Rogers said.

Beyond the signs of caution gracing the sidewalks Rogers says the progress is a sign of growth.

“It’s probably one of the most exciting opportunities that we have. When you look at Downtown Dickson street at what the entertainment district holds, to be able to invest over $23,000,000 into this expansion, you really are making a difference into what Dickson street is going to look like once again,” she said.

The Walton Arts Center has its art of wine festival-fundraiser this weekend and will close down for the season mid-June. It’s expected to reopen in November.
