Woman Arrested After Kidnapping 4 Year Old Fayetteville Girl

News

A woman is now in custody after kidnapping a 4 year old girl in Fayetteville.

4-year-old — Kaylinn Johnson — was asleep in the backseat of a car right here on South Washington Avenue when 35 year old Angela Mcgarrah got in the car and drove off.

“She said a baby was in there and I done got nervous.” said Fayetteville resident, Jacqueline Jones.

Jacqueline Jones was inside this Fayetteville home on Friday morning when she says the unthinkable happened to her neighbor.

“She just burst in through the door saying Call 911 they took my car and my baby is in there.” said Jones.

At around 10:50 Friday morning, 4 year old Kaylinn Johnson was asleep in the backseat of a car on S Washington Ave. According to Fayetteville Police, her mom left the car running as she went inside the house to grab something.

“She came back out and saw someone getting in her vehicle and leaving. The mother did not know who it was who took the vehicle.” said Sgt. Tony Murhpy, with the Fayetteville Police Department.

35 year old, Fayetteville resident, Angela Mcgarrah hopped in the car and fled North. About an hour after the 911 call, Arkansas State Police found Mcgarrah in Springdale with Kaylinn safe inside the car.

“It worked out as well as it could in a situation like this, everyone gets pretty nervous and wants to put in all effort when it comes to something like this. In this instance it’s turned out good.” said Sgt. Murphy.

Police say as of now they don’t know a motive behind the crime. As for Jones, she said after this incident, she’s going to hold her 8 grandchildren a little tighter tonight.

“You really have to be careful, take care of them, and pay attention to your surroundings cause you never know cause the devil comes in all kinds of faces and he’s busy and he’s working it.” said Jones.

Police say right now the mother is not being charged with anything. Mcgarrah is being charged with kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle, and endangering the welfare of a minor. She previously served twelve months in jail for endangering the welfare of a child back in January of 2017.

Police are currently investigating to find out the motive behind Friday’s kidnapping.
