An Austin, Ark., woman is suspected of at least three vehicle thefts in the River Valley area.
Britney Marie Putt, 19, was arrested following a highway chase Wednesday morning, January 30.
Greg Cox, undersheriff with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, said Putt likely would be transported to the Sebastian County Detention Center in Fort Smith to await charges.
Fort Smith police notified Arkansas State Police of a stolen SUV Wednesday morning. The vehicle was later recovered, according to a State Police news release.
Arkansas Highway Police spotted a Chevrolet Impala in the Walmart parking lot on Kelly Highway in Fort Smith. A third vehicle — an Acura — was reported stolen from that parking lot, according to the news release.
Highway Police officers later found the Acura being driven northbound along Interstate 540. A pursuit was initiated near the U.S. Highway 64D exit into Oklahoma, and an Arkansas State Trooper joined the pursuit and became the primary pursuing officer, according to the news release.
“The stolen car was stopped by use of a precision intervention technique and the suspect was taken into custody without incident,” the news release states. “The driver was transported to a Fort Smith hospital for examination and will be charged in the incident later today.”
