HIGHFILL, Ark. (KNWA) — A contract dispute that has gone on for the last four to five years between XNA and legacy carriers, such as American and United Airlines, is causing headaches for travelers in Northwest Arkansas.
XNA officials said increased competition among other legacy carriers is one way fares could come down.
XNA Executive Director Scott Van Laningham said taking complaints to the Federal Aviation Administration — and asking it to rule on the rates — could help settle the dispute.
“Short of agreeing to everything they have asked of us, and changing rates on other carriers, it seems to us that we are not going to reach a negotiated settlement,” Van Laningham said.
Van Laningham went on to say that they have been to Washington, D.C., several times and have made changes to the way the airport calculates fares.
