Fort Smith Voters Choose to Not Support Sales Tax for Marshals Museum

Your Local Election HQ

Unofficial voting numbers show that Fort Smith residents turned down a sales tax to complete the U.S. Marshals Museum.

Voting results as 10 p.m. Tuesday show that 3,670 (35 percent) voters voted for the sales tax and 6,726 (65 percent) voted against it.

The nine-month, one-cent sales tax would have paid for the galleries inside the museum, which is currently under construction.

Funding for the actual construction of the museum has already been earmarked.
Over 7,000 people voted in Sebastian County’s special election.
