Arkansas' Commitments off to Fast Starts in 2018 Football Season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas has 18 commitments and some are off to a fast start though some will be playing their first game tonight. 

A big game tonight will pit Mansfield (Texas) Legacy at Jenks (Okla.). Arkansas will have defensive tackle commitment Enoch Jackson in the game. Jackson is joined by two Legacy teammates who are also being sought by the Hogs. Defensive lineman Taurean Carter and safety Jalen Catalon are teammates who also will visit Arkansas for the Alabama game with Jackson. On the other side of the field, the Hogs are recruiting Jenks offensive lineman Brady Latham. All four players are Class of 2019.

Sardis (Miss.) North Panola quarterback KJ Jefferson is set to play his third game of the season tonight. The team is off to a 2-0 start and will face Lafayette tonight in Oxford (Miss.). In two games, Jefferson has completed 21 of 29 passes for 391 yards, five touchdowns and only one interception while also rushing nine times for 93 yards and one touchdown. 

Phenix City (Ala.) Central running back A'Montae Spivey has his team off to a 1-0 start on the season. They host Meridian (Miss.) tonight. In a 42-18 win at Atlanta (Ga.) Mays in the season opener, Spivey rushed seven times for 94 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 46 yards. 

Warren opened its season on Saturday defeating Batesville Southside 42-26 at North Little Rock. Talented five-star wide receiver Treylon Burks only had one reception and was 0-1 passing, but made his mark on defense. It was impossible in the heat to get him extensive action both ways. Burks finished with 8.5 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, one recovered fumble and a pass breakup. Defensive tackle Marcus Miller had six tackles including two for loss. Warren doesn't play this week.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy wide receiver Shamar Nash and defensive end Eric Gregory are both committed to the Hogs. IMG Academy is 1-0 thus far and hosts Miami (Fla.) Norland tonight. In a season-opening blowout win, Nash had one catch for 14 yards and a touchdown. Gregory had six tackles, four unassisted, and a quarterback hurry. 

TQ Jackson and Jefferson (Texas) got the season off to a good start on Thursday night when they beat Pittsburg (Texas) 44-35. Pulaski Academy five-star tight end Hudson Henry isn't committed to Arkansas, but the Hogs are on his list. He will be in attendance on Saturday as the Hogs open against Eastern Illinois. Henry had nine receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the season opening blowout over Springdale Har-Ber. The Bruins are off this week.

On the offensive line, Tyler (Texas) Lee will open its season tonight hosting Marshall (Texas). Beaux Limmer is committed to the Hogs. The other offensive line commitment is Gulf Breeze (Fla.) High's Joseph Stone. Gulf Breeze (1-0) will be at Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic tonight.

On the defensive line, Putnam City (Okla.) defensive end Collin Clay and his teammates got off to a rough start on Thursday night losing to Putnam City North 33-0.

Springdale also beat Joe T. Robinson and defensive end Zach Williams 48-28 last week. Williams had nine tackles, including seven solo, one sack, a forced fumble and recovered one as well. The Senators will host Rogers tonight. 

Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County defensive end Mataio Soli has seen his team split its first two games. In the two games, Soli has 23 tackles, including 17 unassisted, 12 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. The team doesn't play tonight.

Carl Williams and Lufkin (Texas) will open up the 2018 campaign tonight at Longview (Texas). Richmond (Texas) Fort Bend Travis linebacker Zach Zimos and his teammates defeated Fort Bend Hightower 37-30 on Thursday night. Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson safety Myles Brooks opened the season on Thursday night with a 56-7 blowout win over Texas High from Texarkana. 

Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman cornerback Adonis Otey and his teammates are 2-0 on the season. They play at Manchester (Tenn.) Coffee County Central tonight. In the pair of wins, Otey has completed 2 of 4 passes for nine yards, rushed 14 times for 48 yards, caught one pass for 88 yards and a touchdown as well as collected four tackles on defense. 

Cornerback Malik Chavis and Rison opens up tonight by hosting Fordyce beginning at 8 p.m.
