Two-way lineman Elliott Harris Jr. should draw plenty of attention from recruiters this season

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Senior two-way linebacker Elliott Harris Jr. is back to help try and lead Joe T. Robinson to the Class 4A state championship. Harris was part of a team that finished 13-1 last season as he played a key role.

The Senators are ranked No. 2 in Class 4A by Hooten's Arkansas Football. On Thursday night, they opened against No. 9 in 7A Springdale and actually led 21-20 at intermission, but then fell 48-28.

Harris played both offensive tackle and defensive tackle in the game. Though the Senators lost, Harris feels this game can help make them better down the road.

"It helps us a lot," Harris said. "Going against a good 7A school. It's good competition. We came and brought it and did what we had to do. We gave it all out here. It's just making us better.

"We've got Rogers another 7A school (next Friday) and playing these games are preparing us for state."

What kind of individual goals do you have for your senior season?

"Never stop on a play," Harris said. "Move my feet at all times. My goal is to get like six pancakes every time on offense. On D, I will do whatever the coach tell me to do."

His father, Elliott Harris Sr., was a four-year letterman at Arkansas from 2001-04. What has he told you about the recruiting process?

"Stay focused," Harris said. "Don't even worry about the recruiting stuff. Let them take care of it. Just focus on my grades and ACT. And ball-out on the field."

Harris is 6-foot-3 1/2, 315-pounds. He holds an offer to Texas State though more are sure to come. His younger brother, E'Marion Harris lines up at the tackle on offense opposite Elliott. How much is it to play with your younger brother?

"Hey I love playing with my little brother," Harris said. "Him on that right side. I mean I'm just teaching him which keys to pick up and what to watch for. He's listening. He's gonna be better than me one day."

Joe T. Robinson will host Rogers on Friday and then travel to Camden Fairview on Sept. 14 following a bye week on Sept. 7. They open 7-4A conference play on Friday, Sept. 21, by hosting Fountain Lake.
