FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — UPDATE: Aric Mitchell with the Fort Smith Police Department says the child was hit by a car in a parking lot and that the child was not old enough to be in preschool.

Mitchell says no charges were brought against anyone and that the incident is still under investigation.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fort Smith Police are responding to a vehicle accident near the intersection of 3200 Wheeler Avenue where a child died, according to a news release.

The child’s age and gender has not been released yet.

Police ask to avoid the area as officers respond to the ongoing scene.
