LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Arkansas State Police (ASP) are investigating two separate shooting incidents in Paris that appear to be connected to a murder-suicide.

According to a press release, Paris police officers responded to the Sonic restaurant at 1305 E. Walnut Street around noon and found George A. Poole, 22, dead at the scene. A short time later, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a location on Kalamazoo Road, about five miles away from the drive-in restaurant where Poole worked.

Deputies encountered Joshua D. Malagon, 20, sitting inside a parked vehicle. He had been identified as a suspect in the earlier shooting and refused commands to exit his vehicle.

After deputies heard a single shot from inside the vehicle, they approached and found Malagon wounded inside. They began providing life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene.

Malagon was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The bodies of Poole and Malagon are being transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.

Earlier in the day, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office made a social media post erroneously stating that a suspect was in custody. The post has since been edited.

Special agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division were called to Paris to begin an investigation of both deaths.  Upon completion of their investigation, a case file will be turned over to the Logan County prosecuting attorney for review.
