Redshirt freshman running back Maleek Williams has opted to transfer.

Williams made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

In 2018, Williams rushed 27 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns in seven games. One of his touchdowns was a 68-yard run in the closing minute of the North Texas game.

Williams signed with Arkansas in the Class of 2017 out of Charlotte (Fla.) Punta Gorda High School. Williams chose Arkansas over Tennessee, Oregon, Kentucky, North Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, South Florida, Minnesota, Purdue and others.

He enrolled at Arkansas in January, 2017, and went through spring drills. He then redshirted in 2017. As a senior in high school, he rushed for 1,294 yards and 24 touchdowns.

He is the first scholarship player since the conclusion of the 2018 season to announce his intentions to transfer. Some more are expected in coming days. Arkansas has also had North Little Rock wide receiver Tobias Enlow and Maumelle offensive lineman Tyler Hall, both walk-on players, opt to transfer.
