The 16th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks beat Southern California 6-3 on Thursday night in game one of the three game series.
Arkansas got on the board first in the game with the Casey Martin bases loaded double in the second bringing home three runs for the 3-0 lead.
The Razorbacks plated two more in the third with the Matt Goodheart RBI single bringing home Trevor Ezell. The Hogs added another in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead after an error by the Trojans shortstop allowed Christian Franklin to score on the Ezell grounder.
Cody Scroggins got the start for the Hogs and looked good through three innings and two thirds innings with eight strikeouts before he and the Hogs pitching staff ran into trouble. Scroggins hit a batter and walked another with two outs forcing Dave Van Horn to go to the bullpen.
San Jose, California native and Razorback freshman lefty Patrick Wicklander came in and hit a batter and walked two more to force in three runs. He was replaced by Kole Ramage who pitched three and a third shutout innings to pick up his first win of the season.
All-American closer Matt Cronin came in relief of Zebulon Vermillion with two outs in the 8th. Cronin retired all four batter he faced with strikeouts to pick up his first save of the season.
Arkansas and Southern Cal will get back in action on Friday night at 8 p.m. central time in game two of the series. Arkansas ace Isaiah Campbell (1-0, 5.40 ERA) will be on the mound for the Hogs. The Trojans will counter with Kyle Hurt (0-0, 3.60 ERA).
