Just a Thought: Reflect on Positives, Don’t Dwell on Early CWS Exit

Now that it’s Tuesday, one day removed from the Hogs’ elimination from the College World Series, it seems more appropriate to reflect on Arkansas’ 66-game season and the countless number of ways they exceeded expectations.  It was tough to put that into words during Monday post game given the heartbreak from Arkansas’ second straight one-run loss.  Digesting how the Hogs failed to scratch across a run in the 9th with first and second nobody out was a lot to deal with Monday.   As I write this roughly 24 hours after the fact, I’d rather look at the great accomplishments from the entire season:

Ten Notables:

1) They were ranked as high as 12th in the preseason, but earned the number five national seed, winning a share of the SEC West (second division title in two years)

2) Back-to-back trips to the CWS for the first time in school history

3) Only 7 home losses all year (only lost one home series all season)

4) Dramatic 15-inning win at Auburn  April 5th, a major turning point (snapped a 4-game skid)

5) Swept SEC Series at home against Missouri, Mississippi State & Tennessee

6) School-Record Nine Razorbacks named All-SEC

7) First regular season of 40 or more wins since 2010

8) Fastest to 40 wins since 1989

9) First time winning 20 SEC Games under Dave Van Horn

10) The 46-Win Season ties for the second-most wins in a single season under Van Horn

So, the attention now turns to football.  But, I just have to shake my head (in a good way) knowing I should be very thankful.  Getting to Omaha is a grind.  Doing it in back-to-back years speaks volumes about the powerhouse program on the Hill.  Belief in the journey. The buy-in from players, knowing how DVH sets it up, so memorable from February to June.
