“The Coaches are Gonna Do a Good Job, I Promise” – Noland Talks Dual-Sport Status

Future Razorback football and baseball Connor Noland played his way to his second state championship game of the school year after the Greenwood Bulldogs defeated Jonesboro 15-0 on Saturday. Noland went 2-2 at the plate with 5 RBI and a home run.

“Everything was kinda working today,” Noland told the Pig Trail Nation. “I had slider curveball, fastball, inside out, so I was really mixing it up and keeping them off balance.”

After Greenwood faces Benton at Baum Stadium next Saturday, Noland’s next stop will be back to Fayetteville for summer and fall practice. Chad Morris has told Noland he’ll have a chance to compete for next year’s starting quarterback job.

“You look forward to being a starter in the SEC since you’re little and I’m ready to just get in there and compete and it’s gonna be a good time,” Noland said. “We’ve got a lot of good quarterbacks in there, so just looking forward to the opportunity.”

Noland won’t just be on the Razorback football team, he’s also going to play for Dave Van Horn and the Diamond Hogs. And he trusts both coaches will help him make being a dual sport athlete work.

“Obviously you’re seeing it a lot more in college football or college baseball,” Noland said. “People are coming out there Saturday playing baseball, flying home for practice on Mondays. And we’re just kinda working it out as it goes. We’re gonna figure it out. The coaches are gonna do a good job, I promise.”

But the freshman said both sports will get a fair share of attention.

“I think it’ll be even,” Noland said. “Obviously I’m a pitcher only so I just go pitch and if I have to fly home for practice, I can do that. It gives me a lot of flexibility and I’ll be able to pull of a lot of things.”

For now, Noland will look to win his first state baseball championship to go along with the football championship the Bulldogs won in December.
