Hometown/High School: El Dorado, Arkansas- El Dorado HS
Rated the No. 1 prospect in the state by ESPN and ranked one of the nation’s top defensive tackles, Bijhon Jackson chose to bring his abilities to the University of Arkansas over schools like Alabama and Ole Miss. Despite tying career highs in his junior season at the U of A, Jackson has not lived up to his high school hype.
Jackson says he has struggled to make a bigger impact on the field because of an issue with his weight. He is now down to 330 and is working hard to maintain it.
The Razorbacks have added John Scott Jr. to their defensive coaching staff and have switched their defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4. The new defensive scheme will place Jackson in the middle at nose guard.
“I love it. It’s a lot different from the last defense. I’ve got a lot more freedom. I’m really excited about the opportunity.” Jackson said.
The changes in coaching and their defensive scheme may be exactly what Jackson needs to take his play to the next level in his senior season.
Jackson said, “It was just the way we played last year I felt I was worried about so many things. Just getting reads and stuff like that I don’t have to worry about any more is gonna help me. Be free and just worry about playing ball.”
