Considering this is a program that’s been plagued by injuries on the pitching staff early in 2017, several bright spots have emerged after 25 games.  There’s no doubt Arkansas has major room to grow.  After all, this is still a pitching staff ranked 9th in Team ERA in the SEC.  However, Dave Van Horn is pleased with the effort.

“I think number one, we are throwing a lot more strikes than we did last year.  That is what jumps out to me,” Arkansas’ Head Coach said.

Trevor Stephan paces the team with a 2.02 ERA, a 4-1 record, and fifty strikeouts in thirty-five and two-thirds innings.  Meanwhile, Friday Starter Blaine Knight has a 2.51 ERA, a 3-1 record, 41 strikeouts and only two walks in a little more than 32 innings of work.  As for the staff overall?  “All of our guys come in and get after that strike zone pretty good, and they make the other team swing the bat,” Van Horn added.

Arkansas is finding success despite the fact Keaton McKinney, Cody Scroggins and Isaiah Campbell suffered injuries.

The 20-5 Hogs, tied atop the SEC West with a 5-1 league mark, head to Tuscaloosa for a three-game series.  Game One is Friday at 6 p.m.
