The early signing period will begin on Wednesday and then conclude on Friday.

Here’s five random football recruiting thoughts not only about Arkansas, but prospects inside the state as well.

1. The Final Answer Is

Harvey (La.) West Jefferson cornerback Gregory Brooks Jr., 5-10, 178, will sign with a school on Wednesday. Brooks committed to Mississippi State on June 10. He has since visited Arkansas officially the weekend of the LSU game and then was at Mississippi State the weekend of Dec. 7 for his official visit. He has maintained for several weeks he will make his final decision known on Dec. 19. He is the type cornerback who will help some school early in his career.

2. Memphis Offers Two Good Ones

The University of Memphis has offered two very good underclassmen in Arkansas in recent days. They offered Little Rock Christian Class of 2020 wide receiver Chris Hightower, 6-2, 185, on Dec. 13. Kansas was the first offer for Hightower. The Tigers also offered Mena Class of 2021 tight end Mason Brotherton, 6-4, 235, on Dec. 14. That was the first offer for Brotherton. Both Hightower and Brotherton are expected to attract a lot of college attention in the coming months.

3. Close Calls

2020 Highland Park quarterback Chandler Morris, 6-0, 175, and the Scots will face Pearland Shadow Creek in the Texas Class 5A, Division I state championship game on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in AT&T Stadium. Both teams are 15-0 and they had fairly easy games on Saturday to reach the finals. Highland Park beat Denton Ryan 43-21 and Shadow Creek downed San Antonio Wagner 41-24. However, each of them were fortunate to escape quarterfinal games. Highland Park trailed Tyler John Tyler 35-14 after three quarters before scoring 28 points in the fourth quarter to escape. Shadow Creek trailed Richmond Foster 21-14 after three quarters, but then scored 11 points in the final period to take a 25-21 victory. They had narrowly defeated Richmond Foster 35-34 in the regular season as well.

4. 2020 Crop In Arkansas

Arkansas has currently offered three prospects in Arkansas in 2020. Morrilton quarterback Jacolby Criswell, 6-1, 208; Bryant outside linebacker Catrell Wallace, 6-6, 215; and Jonesboro defensive end Jashaud Stewart, 6-2, 216, hold Arkansas offers. Wallace and Stewart were recently offered by Arkansas State as well. Criswell holds offers from Arkansas State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Memphis, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Seton Hill, UCA and South Alabama in addition to the Hogs. Some others in the state in the 2020 group to watch are Hightower, Hazen defensive end Blayne Toll, 6-5, 240; North Little Rock offensive tackle Erin Smith, 6-5, 280; Springdale defensive back JaJuan Boyd, 6-0, 170; Dumas athlete Chris Harris, 5-11, 185; Fayetteville wide receiver Connor Flannigan, 5-10, 175; Clarksville two-way lineman Michael Powell, 6-4, 295; and Ozark linebacker Bryant Burns, 6-3, 220.

5. Linebacker Prospect

Dodge City (Kan.) Community College linebacker Lakia Henry. 6-1, 225, is committed to Tennessee, but the Hogs continue to make a strong push. Florida State jumped in with an offer on Saturday. Tennessee defensive lineman Emmit Gooden and Arkansas linebacker De’Jon had a funny exchange on Twitter on Saturday concerning Henry.

Arkansas currently has one linebacker committed in Richmond (Texas) Fort Bend Travis’ Zach Zimos, 6-4, 215.
