This week our Most Valuable kid is Kaylyn. She’s in first grade and has a very special connection to the Razorbacks.
Kaylyn just recently celebrated her 7th birthday. She says, “For my birthday I went to Lokomotion. The first game we played was laser tag and we had a lot of fun.”
But at just 6 weeks old, she was admitted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Kaylyn was born with a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts. After two weeks in the hospital, she was released but still goes back for regular checkups.
Kaylyn “I think it was when I was a baby aNd I had something wrong with my liver.”
“On those days I don’t eat anything until the doctors appointment is over,” says Kaylyn. “I remember there was one time and I was starving after the appointment.”
One of her favorite things to do now is play softball.
She says, “I really like to hit. They put a ball in a machine and the machine like throws it to me and we only get three hits from the machine and then our coach throws it to us two times.”
When she’s not playing sports, she’s watching the Razorbacks with her dad, Kenny Sandlin, who is a former player himself. He played for Arkansas from 1998-2001 before playing in the NFL for Carolina and Minnesota.
Knowing everything she’s been through, Arkansas linebacker Dre Greenlaw recorded a special message for her. To watch it, view the video above.
