The start of the 2019 Arkansas baseball season is just days away. The official starting lineup has yet to be released so the Pig Trail Nation team has worked together to come up with predictions for each position on the field.
Isaiah Campbell, now a redshirt junior, chose to pass up on the major leagues this year and is now set to be the Razorbacks weekend starter.
“I have a whole new mindset,” says Campbell. “I’m just ready to get out there and compete and get this team going on a great start every weekend.”
The pitcher is coming off a season full of highs and lows on the mound. But, he’s ready to get back on track and be someone the team can count on every outing.
“It kind of comes back to last year, not having the year that I wanted at times,” says Campbell “I mean I was great in some starts and bad in some other starts. I have to be more consistent.”
Campbell also says he’s not playing with a chip on his shoulder this year. However, he has been hard at work to make sure his struggles are behind him.
“I turned my slider last year in to a true cutter this year. A harder, sharper cutter. And also, the other thing that I’ve done is I’ve added a splitter inside of my change up and it’s helped add velocity to my changeup type pitch. I think it’s going to help a lot keep hitters off my fast ball,” says Campbell.
Being a leader on the team now, there will be a lot of pressure on Campbell to perform this season.
Only time will tell if he can handle it.
