Summer is a time for fun and adventure, and for some in Northwest Arkansas, a time to get that Summer reading list done.
Event Coordinator at Bella Vista Public Library Bailley Kinser says,”There’s no reason to be bored this summer.”
Whether it’s a required reading list for school, or just for fun, the Bella Vista Public Library wants you to get hooked on books this Summer. Kinser says,” They’re kind of [like], ‘hey we have snow cones!’ And then they, you know, come for the blow ups, and the balloons, and everything. And then you know, they’re in the library  and they go, ‘wow look at all these books that we can check out!’ So, you kind of lure them in with a party and then wait a minute we have all these books and can start reading stuff too.”Kinser says the competition for the reading program can get fierce, so if you’re competitive, it may be the perfect way to kick off your own Summer reading. “Last year in the teens, we had an e-reader as the prize and they were determined to win that e-reader that got a little competitive,” says Kinser.
The competition runs through the end of Summer. Different age groups level the playing field, and whoever reads the most books in their division wins the big prize. Organizers say everyone’s a winner with all the benefits books offer.  Kinser says, “Sometimes you’ll just see kids like in our little chairs that have found a book and are just sitting here reading, completely absorbed  in that and that’s like ooh this is why we do it, it’s so much fun to see them, you know, really love books.”
