Weather Blog: Warm weather heading into the weekend

Daily Weather Forecasts

Warm conditions are expected again today across eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas, while a ridge of high pressure begins to build across the plains.

Afternoon temperatures in the mid/upper 80s will be possible for the CWA with southwesterly winds. Also today, a slight chance of thunderstorms will be possible mainly over far Northwest Arkansas late this afternoon into the mid-evening hours. This is in response to an upper-level vort max associated with ongoing convection in southern Nebraska.

Weak deep layer shear values should help to limit overall severe potentials, though a couple strong to near marginally severe storms may be possible. This activity should weaken and push off to the east southeast with the movement of the vort max by late evening.

A ridge remains in place over the CWA Thursday and then gets a push eastward Friday from a wave progged to move onto the west coast Thursday into the Rocky Mountain region Friday and finally into the plains Saturday.

Ahead of the approaching wave, warm temperatures and breezy southwesterly winds are forecast through Friday, with a more active weather pattern expected for the weekend as the wave moves through the plains.
